I saw a little bird take flight for the first time…

It flew magnificently over the trees, skimmed past the seashore, graciously lifting its beak up and swiftly passing through the wind, embracing every moment of its flight, until…it saw a parrot soaring high up in the sky. It was as though the parrot was grinning at the little bird, provoking it to fly much higher. The little one flapped its wings rather vehemently to reach a higher altitude, but only in vain. It tried harder and harder and eventually exhausted itself.

“Am I built to fly so high up in the sky?”, it thought to itself. “This is not even worth the effort. I am not meant to soar as high as that big guy.” It had lost its agility and had gradually drawn-out. It was in pain.

The little one was an eaglet, just out of its nest. By nature, it would surpass altitudes beyond all the birds who seemed so far out of reach at the moment! It was born to touch the skies!

There’s an eagle within all of us, with the ability to surge through adversities at altitudes beyond our comprehensions… If only we believed and chose to enjoy the present moment.

Often our thoughts transition as a result of our insecurities, lack of knowledge of self and the journey we are in. Our thoughts linger around the past, present and future. If only we could accept that the lessons of the past are what helps us live in the present, thus creating a better future…This realization can teach us to stay calm and be contentful.

The ability to believe in our actions, that root out of the past can be strengthened with the help of a trustworthy mentor. We tend to venture into way too many fields out of curiosity, or with a notion that it would help us somewhere along the line, but the lack of knowledge can leave us making no sense of the situation. This can further cause more insecurity and prevent us from taking the next steps, as a result of our bad track record. Having a mentor minimizes inefficiency and maximizes results!

Imagine, in this analogy, that the eaglet was lead by a mentor before it began its first flight, revealing its true identity. It would’ve enjoyed its flight, disregarding the provocative Parrot and strengthening its ability to fly above the clouds one day!

Practices such as meditation, self-introspecting and reflecting on the day will help you take control of your mind.

Conversations with wise individuals will help you make better decisions. Becoming more aware of the world around you, understanding who you are, and what journey you could possibly embark on, meeting people and listening to their stories and lessons of life, as well as reading, will strengthen your belief and back your decisions.

You need not fight your thoughts, inspect them. They have lessons to teach you, learn them. They might caution you of what has to come, take your steps wisely. They might also convey a message, make sure to read between the lines. These thoughts will also help you take your steps wisely when introspected!

Without self knowledge, without understanding the working and functions of his machine, man cannot be free, he cannot govern himself and he will always remain a slave. — G. I. Gurdjieff
